You are not a problem to be solved. You are a story still being written.
You are not broken.
You may feel broken. You may have been treated as if something inside you is defective. But that’s not how I see you.
I don’t do therapy as if you’re a machine that needs fixing. You’re a human being who’s adapted repeatedly to survive in a world that hasn’t always made it easy. Our work is about honoring that, not undoing it. And those adaptations may have kept you alive, even if now, they feel painful, confusing, or in the way.
There’s a difference between having a problem and being the problem.
We start right there – with that separation.
Everyone carries stories.
We carry stories about who we are, what we deserve, and what we’re capable of, and often, those stories get tangled up with shame, trauma, grief, or someone else’s expectations.
That tangle can make it hard to know where the pain ends and where you begin.
Our work is about untangling and loosening the grip of stories imposed on you so we can start listening for the ones you want to live into.
You contain multitudes.
There is no one fixed “self” to discover. You’re not a single identity waiting to be unlocked. You are a living, breathing process, constantly becoming.
That’s not a flaw. That’s your freedom. Thich Nhat Hanh said, “No mud, no lotus.” I agree. Even the parts of you shaped by pain can be the soil for something beautiful.
Together, we’ll explore the version of yourself you most want to nurture – the version that feels like home. This is your preferred self, and our work is about helping that version come forward with more clarity, confidence, and care.
Therapy is something we do together.
You’re the expert on your life. My role is to bring tools, language, and perspective, while you provide the lived experience.
That means this isn’t about diagnosis or passive listening. It’s a creative, relational process in which we stay curious, ask better questions, and start rewriting the story from the inside out.
It’s not always easy, it might get raw, but it’s real, and we do it together.
Therapy is not just about insight. It’s about becoming.
Awareness is important, but so is action.
Our conversations might involve untangling internalized beliefs, naming parts of yourself that have been exiled or ignored, remembering your wisdom and values, gaining language for things you’ve felt but never said aloud, and creating space between you and the problem so that you can breathe again.
So much of our work will focus on helping you move from wishing things were different to doing something different, one step at a time, in a way that honors your pacing.
Are you ready to begin?
You don’t need to have it all figured out or explain yourself perfectly. All you need is to want something to shift, and be willing to take that risk to be witnessed.
Let’s untangle the stories that have held you back, so something new can emerge.
Our work begins with you calling me at (310) 737-8025 or emailing joshuabeckettmft@gmail.com.
